About
Augusto Bizzi
Augusto Bizzi is an Italian sports photographer. Since Beijing 2008 he has worked at 7 Olympic and Paralympic Games, photographing across the full range of the programme — athletics, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, short track and figure skating.
Fencing runs through the work as a constant. The archive holds Matteo Tagliariol’s épée gold in Beijing, Aldo Montano in the team sabre, Daniele Garozzo taking the foil title in Rio, and Beatrice Maria Vio at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
The pictures are made from the edge of the field of play, in the seconds when a result is decided and an athlete first understands it. What follows is a selection from that archive, presented with the caption and camera data recorded at the moment of the frame.
